Here are some photos I was able to snap the last day of NobFest V here in St Augustine at Shanghai Nobby’s. Wish I had the time to see all the bands on this line up.
It’s been a little while since my last post. Partially due to work load and my battle with some sinus issues. I had some travel in December to NYC that seemed to cause me to catch “The Sickness”, but a trip to the doc’s and a Zpack later…I was back on track this month with shooting and my first show of 2016 happened to be the one and only SSPU!
Getting to Mark That Off My List
A little backstory on Silversun Pickups, this band is one of the all time favorites of my girlfriend, Kris and mine. Before I began shooting shows and bands, I was a huge fan and we had already seen these guys play live twice. Once in Baltimore and then we flew to Rhode Island to see them again that same tour. After starting to shoot, I put them down on a list of the bands I must shoot as a music photographer. We got an opportunity to see them again in Baltimore and I was not able to make the list as a house photographer that night. I was bummed, but I brought in a Canon point and shoot and got some good images through the crowd anyway. Well, now I can mark this off my list. Not only did I shoot the show but also was able to shoot the meet and greets for x102.9. I was ecstatic about hearing I was going to shoot SSPU right here in Jacksonville. Little to say, so was Kris 😉 I’ve been shooting with X102.9 for a little over a year now. I’ve met and shot some amazing bands in this short amount of time. (More about this in a separate post coming soon!)
I’ll start this post off with the meet and greets and then some images of the show.
Ponte Vedra Concert Hall
Now that we’re past the meet and greets, let me share the show experience. When I first heard that SSPU was coming to town-which came through as a exultant phone call from Kris while I was in NYC, I had to reach out to my peeps at one of my favorite venues I love to shoot…Saint Augustine Amphitheater. (I’ve been shooting for the Amphitheater for a little over two years. I shoot a variety of events and concerts that come through for these wonderful people. I was hoping that they didn’t have anyone to cover this show just yet!) The call was a success, we were in to shoot! I was floored. This was one band I had been hoping to shoot for almost 6 years! I can now put down my camera and call it quits 😉 Just kidding…but it was truly exciting for us.
So the night of the show, after spending the afternoon in the meet and greet/acoustic session at the station, we were ready to rock. No matter what, I was destined to get great shots, as always, and have a good time watching our favorite band bring down the house. That is exactly what we did too. Here are some of the images from that night.
Thanks for reading. Keep checking back for new articles about shoots, shows and tutorials!!
My Morning Jacket is AMAZING live! Mini Mansions were killer as well. Here is a look at the show last Saturday evening.
These guys are damn amazing and talented. I not only get to work with them on promotional things but they are friends. I was super excited to shoot a few promo photos for them a few months ago and since I’ve been in the studio, at multiple shows and now working on a video and possibly a website. Check out Love Chunk here.
I was honored to be a part of and volunteer for the Clean Water Music Fest this year here in Ponte Vedra at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall. There were a ton of amazing people and artist/musicians that gathered together for a great cause, and that was to support and help raise money and awareness on getting clean water to the people around the world that don’t have access or means to have clean drinking water. Flagship Romance, Jordyn Jackson and Shawn Fisher, single handedly put this event together and with the support raised over 25K for this amazing charity. Please go check out their page and you can see more info on everything about this event and ways to spread the word and help out. Also check out Charity Water there is more information there about helping to get clean water to people in need.
Here are some photos from yesterday that kind of highlight just a portion of this event.
This last weekend I was fortunate enough to volunteer to check ID’s for the Rhythm & Ribs event here in Saint Augustine, Florida. Not only did the event interest me because of the music that was going on, but also a good way to get out in the community to do some networking. Well as it turns out, they could use my photography services by volunteering the following day, Sunday, to shoot some of the festival. So with cards and stickers in one hand and the trusty D800 in the other I set out to document the event…
It was great seeing Ruben and Joey again here in sunny Florida. If you have not heard Swampcandy you really need to go check them out. Like their page and go purchase their music in iTunes! Then it was bonus to meet The Corbitt Brothers Band that Swampcandy opened up for. Go give them a like and support as well!
It’s been a few weeks since my last post. I have been busy finishing up my new design site and doing local shoots. Not to mention the fun stuff over at Project 52 Pros. Busy they say is a good thing 🙂 Well I want to share a few photos from this past weekend. I shot for a new friend and local music promoter at a great little venue called The Standard. There were two amazing bands that you need to check out. First, in the above photo, was Love Chunk. The second you’ll see in the photos to follow, was The Hip Abduction. If you are ever in St. Augustine area and want to see some great live entertainment, look up The Standard’s schedule. Hope you like the photos!
Again, I can’t say enough thanks to Brandon and the Rams Head group for letting me shoot and see some amazing talent. I’ve been shooting for Rams Head Live for about 6-7 months now and I fell I have learned a ton about shooting a live show under low light and with constant lighting changes. I am going to try and post some of these killer shows as I go and here and there give some of the tips I have learned doing this. Keep checking out the blog!
